Memorial Day

We had kind of a crazy Memorial Day this year! Richard worked until noon, and when he got home, he had me pack up for a day out, and we got in the car! THREE HOURS LATER, we got to the Grand Canyon Caverns!! It was quite a drive, the last stretch being the worst, but we just sang Leila's favorite nursery songs, and they were appeased enough to make it to the end! The caverns were pretty sweet! Outside the building, they had a couple of big old fake dinosaurs, which the girls loved, but when we went down into the caves, Leila was SURE dinosaurs lived down there! :) At first she was a tad worried, but that quickly disappeared when she realized there was a bunch of room down there for her to run around! Our guide was an old, kind of smelly man, and he and Leila got on like they'd been friends forever! Ha! Brooklyn didn't care so much to be down there at all, she was getting very restless, but we just kept trying to distract her! Luckily there were a couple of ladies on the tour with us who were enamored with the girls, and when Brooklyn would get cranky, they'd coo at her and that'd make her, in her absolute determination not to be happy, just lay down on my shoulder until they left her alone! OMG, she's such a goof!

After the tour, we went to the playground they had outside, and finally, Brooklyn decided this might be a fun place! Leila went down the huge slide, and fell into the wood chips every time she slid down! But she didn't mind!! There were even some horses up there, we couldn't pet them, but they were a big hit!

The ride back seemed longer than the way there! Leila was being SO GOOD though! I couldn't believe it!! When we stopped to get gas, Daddy came back to the car with a treat for the girls! Their very first Twinkies!! Haha, I was dying!

Brooklyn went to town! She was having the best time! Leila had one bite and gave it back to Daddy! :) After Brooklyn's Twinkie was gone, I think she must've thought there were more coming, because she got more grumpy than ever! Richard and I were contemplating where would be the best place to pull over and leave Brooklyn to her own defenses! hehe..

Then, HOORAY! We were home! Daddy and Brooklyn were too tired, but me and Leila went over to grandmama and papa's, and had a late night swim in their warm spa! It was so fun! Leila was loving it!

Oh, and you may be wondering why Leila is in a swimsuit wandering around the underground caves of the Grand Canyon!! Well she was very determined to wear her panties for our very long car ride, and she promised to tell us when she needed to go potty.... and she did.. unfortunately she needed to go potty on the loneliest stretch of road I'd ever seen! I told Richard to "just pull over!!" but he kept thinking there'd be something "right around the corner"!... And there never was! When he finally listened to my reasoning, and Leila's pleas, he pulled over.. but it was too late! Poor little thing! She was being so good! So we changed her into the only thing we had with us! Her swimsuit! Which suited her just fine! She was happy to wear it and was outraged when we told her we'd buy her a shirt at the little gift shop! (In her defense, they were quite ugly shirts. I wouldn't have wanted to wear one either!)
